As the year 2015 winds to an end, do you have some last-minute Christmas shopping to do? As expected, Lagosians have started the usual last minute rush, besieging markets, malls, ATMs and everything that goes with buying and selling.
Our reporter who moved around the city-centre today December 24, observed that trading activities have been heightened, causing serious traffic congestion, despite fuel scarcity.
Men and women alike were seen hustling and bustling for chicken, rice, clothes, shoes and other food items.
Although, most residents of the city are out of town to their villages to celebrate the yuletide season in their home town, the city of Lagos is still filled with all the razzmatazz it is known for.

Zanetti: Messi to Inter? I hope so!
The Serie A icon knows a deal would be difficult, but would love to link up with his fellow Argentine all the same
Inter legend Javier Zanetti has weighed in in the wake of Nerazzurri owner Erick Thohir's announcement that he would love to sign Lionel Messi, the vice-president stating that he is hopeful a deal could be struck with his countryman some day.

An Inter icon, Zanetti played with the Serie A side for 19 years before retiring to take on a role as the club's VP. And now, despite knowing Messi has little to prove to himself and others outside of Spain, the 42-year-old would relish the chance of linking up with his compatriot once again.

"I hope Messi can come to play for Inter," Zanetti told ESPN Argentina.

"He's very happy at Barcelona, though. With all that he's won, he has nothing to prove to anyone.

"We just have to enjoy him and understand what a great ambassador he is for the sport."

Inter currently sit atop the Serie A standings, just one point ahead of Napoli and Fiorentina. TheNerazzurri are next in action against Empoli on January 6.

The sultan of Brunei has banned people from celebrating Christmas in public this year [Ahim Rani/Reuters]
Somalia has issued a ban on Christmas celebrations in the Muslim-majority country after the Southeast Asian sultanate of Brunei announced a similar prohibition earlier this month with the threat of five years in jail.
Sheikh Mohamed Khayrow, director general of Somalia's religious affairs ministry, said on Tuesday that Christmas and New Year celebrations threatened the country's Muslim faith.
"There should be no activity at all," he told reporters, adding security forces had been ordered to break up any such festivities.
"All events related to Christmas and New Year celebrations are contrary to Islamic culture, which could damage the faith of the Muslim community."
Sheikh Nur Barud Gurhan, of the Supreme Religious Council of Somalia, also warned against celebrations, saying they could provoke al-Shabab "to carry out attacks".
Last year, the armed group launched a Christmas Day attack on the African Union's heavily fortified headquarters in the capital Mogadishu, killing three AU soldiers and a civilian.
Somalia, which issued a similar ban in 2013, follows the Islamic calendar that does not recognise January 1 as the beginning of the year.
There are almost no Christians left living in the country, although a bombed-out Italian-built Catholic cathedral remains a city landmark Mogadishu.
Foreign diplomats, aid workers, and soldiers living in the AU compound are permitted to mark the day privately.
Santa hats banned
Similarly, Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah has also banned public celebrations of Christmas.
Religious leaders in the oil-rich sultanate warned the ban on Christmas would be strictly enforced, with violators facing up to five years in jail.
"Using religious symbols like crosses, lighting candles, putting up Christmas trees, singing religious songs, sending Christmas greetings ... are against Islamic faith," imams said in sermons published in the local press.
The government warned last year that Muslims would be committing an offence if they so much as wore "hats or clothes that resemble Santa Claus".
Christians represent about nine percent of Brunei's 430,000 population.
Businesses have been warned to take decorations down and authorities have stepped up spot checks across the capital. Hotels popular among Western tourists that once boasted dazzling lights and giant Christmas trees are now barren of festive decor.

Zimbabwe plans to adopt the Chinese yuan as legal tender in return for debt cancellation worth about $40m - a move one economist predicted "has no future at all".
China has become the largest investor in Zimbabwe, which has been shunned by the West over its human rights record and is struggling to emerge from a deep 1999-2008 recession that forced the government to ditch its own currency in 2009.
Zimbabwe's Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa announced the plan in a statement on Monday and said the use of the yuan "will be a function of trade between China and Zimbabwe and acceptability with customers in Zimbabwe".

In the last five years, Zimbabwe has received more than $1bn in low-interest loans from China, which is Harare's second largest trading partner after South Africa.
"They [China] said they are cancelling our debts that are maturing this year and we are in the process of finalising the debt instruments and calculating the debts," Chinamasa said.
However, according to one Zimbabwean analyst, the yuan has already been a legal tender for the past two years and Chinamasa's comments are rather puzzling.
"Nothing looks to change from this latest move," economist John Roberston told Al Jazeera.
"Yuan was included in the so-called multi-currency system a couple of years ago. It's nothing new. What is different is the attachment to debts. It seems that the government is trying to pass this on as a concession by China.
"But they don't need to make concessions. This is pretty meaningless as it stands."
China has been accused of exploiting the continent's vast mineral and energy resources at the expense of local people.
On a rare visit to Harare by a Chinese leader, President Xi Jinping witnessed the signing of 10 economic agreements earlier this month, including a $1bn loan to expand Zimbabwe's largest thermal power plant.
"There is no yuan circulating in the country," said Robertson. "South African rand and the US dollar have been the dominant currencies. So it's a strange situation now as the yuan has no future at all."
But people accepting payment will want it in dollars as opposed to yuan and that will be very damaging to China’s interest
John Robertson, Zimbabwe economics expert
Zimbabwe's central bank chief John Mangudya was in negotiations with the People’s Bank of China "to see whether we can enhance its usage here", according to the finance minister.
But Robertson suggested although China is active in Zimbabwe’s markets and economy, it does not want to sell goods there in return for Chinese currency.
"Nearly everything Zimbabwe can make it imports for a lot of money, and China wants to be a main supplier of these imported goods and would want to take the US dollar in return," he said.
China-Zimbabwe relations date back to 1979 and the African country's "Look East" policy has made China a strong ally in the market.
Relations were further improved when President Robert Mugabe was awarded China's alternative to the Nobel Peace Prize in October for what the committee called his inspired national leadership and service to pan-Africanism.
Mugabe has placed great importance on Zimbabwe's relations with China, especially after the 2003 standoff with the EU that resulted in the economic depression when the interest rate shot up to almost 600 percent.
"China is desperate for the consumer goods market, basically whatever anyone with the buying power can pay for.
"We can see evidence of that in the country all the time. But people accepting payment will want it in dollars - as opposed to yuan - and that will be very damaging to China’s interest here in Zimbabwe," said Robertson.

Iraqi forces have retaken large parts of Ramadi from Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) group, but officials expect the city's "liberation" to take longer than initially expected.
Intense fighting between Iraqi forces - comprising the army, tribal groups and local police - and ISIL fighters continued on Thursday, two days after the latest operation to recapture the city began in earnest.
Iraqi intelligence believe there are only a few hundred rebels left within the city, but booby traps - containging explosive material capable of damaging 25-tonne vehicles - have slowed their progress.

On Thursday afternoon, a number of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) exploded on al-Dhubaat Street in the city's south, killing 10 Iraqi troops and injuring another 16, military sources told Al Jazeera.
A day earlier, Iraqi government and military officials said they expected the Anbar provincial capital to be liberated within about 72 hours, but that target appears to have been pushed back.
Al Jazeera's Waleed Ibrahim, reporting from Baghdad, said the language being used by military and political leaders has changed dramatically.
"Some leaders had said the liberation of the entire city will take 72 hours. Now leaders say they are [still] fighting and the liberation of Ramadi will take a longer time," he said.
Our correspondent said Iraqi forces were being slowed significantly by snipers, IEDs and booby-trapped buildings.
Despite the setbacks, Iraqi officials remain confident.
"The plan is to encircle the areas and launch an attack from the centre," Iraqi MP Mohammed Al-Ugaili told Al Jazeera.

"ISIL has lost the balance of power as it does not know which direction it's being attacked by Iraqi forces."
Iraqi forces have been backed by air strikes from the international coalition, led by the United States.
Ramadi, about 120km from the capital Baghdad, was captured by ISIL in May, but Iraqi forces have since managed to claw back some territory.
A counterattack by government forces on the centre of the Ramadi began in earnest on Tuesday.
Ramadi's fall was the government's biggest setback since ISIL fighters swept through areas in the country's north and west - including Iraq's second-biggest city of Mosul - in the summer of 2014.

Chillin' - the Madrid star sent a message of love as he unwinds over the holidays

There may be some problems at Real Madrid, but Cristiano Ronaldo clearly isn't letting the club's stuttering form get to him as he unwinds over the Christmas period.

Aniefiok Udo was spared jail term after admitting to a string of sexual assaults on the  London Tube. He pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault on December 14. He was handed a 16-week suspended sentence and banned for five years from approaching any woman he does not know while using public transport.

49-year-old Udo, from Ilford, assaulted the same 23-year-old woman on two separate occasions while travelling on the Central Line last year.

He approached her and began touching her after boarding trains at Hainault station at about 9pm on both occasions, Snaresbrook Crown Court heard.

After she reported the incidents to police in January, another woman also came forward to say she had been assaulted by the man.

Detective Constable Martin Chapman said:

"No woman should fear using public transport, and we are committed to working with our partners to keep the rail network a safe place.
"I am pleased Udo has been brought before the courts to answer for his disgusting behaviour, and I would like to thank the women involved for reporting his actions to us."

Neymar will become the best in the world - Eto'o

The former Barcelona and Chelsea forward has urged the Brazilian to "train, train and train" to ensure he emulates Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo
Samuel Eto'o is in no doubt that Neymar will be the best player in the world once Barcelonateam-mate Lionel Messi and Real Madrid forward Cristiano Ronaldo are past their peak.
The trio make up the shortlist for the 2015 Fifa Ballon d'Or, an accolade which the Argentine and the Portuguese have dominated for the past seven years.
Former Barcelona and Madrid forward Eto'o is confident if Neymar applies himself appropriately, he will be the sport's leading performer in the future.
"Neymar has a lot of potential. After the era of Messi and Cristiano, surely he will be number one," Eto'o, who played for Barca between 2004 and 2009, told ESPN Brasil.
Up to 100 people are believed to have perished in a gas plant explosion in Nnewi, Anambra State today. The Christmas Eve disaster reportedly began at 11am when a fire ignited as a commercial truck was discharging its contents at the Inter Corp Oil Ltd gas plant.
Anambra State Gas Explosion
Sources speaking to Vanguard reported that customers at the gas plant as well as passersby were caught in the explosion, killing many and injuring an unknown number.
Victims of the explosion were moved to the Nnamdi Azikwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH) in Nnewi, according to eyewitnesses at the scene.
SaharaReporters contacted the Police Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Anambra State, however he could not immediately comment at the time of publication because he was travelling for the next two hours.
The Transport Minister of Ghana, Dzifa Ativor, resigned on Wednesday following a scandal regarding reports that she spent roughly  $1 million to repaint more than 100 buses with portraits of the country’s recent leaders.
Buses featuring the country's recent leaders cost nearly $1m (£700,000)
Mrs. Avitor provided a contract to a private firm to spray paint the buses, which were imported, with the faces of recent Ghanaian presidents including the current President John Mahama.
Once the news of the repainting came to light, the opposition party and several anti-corruption groups began to assail President Mahama for what they viewed as wasteful spending.

The scandal broke just as the country was forced to go to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for emergency loans to help right its faltering economy. Part of the conditions for the emergency loans was a promise by the Ghanaian government to rein in spending. Earlier this week, President Mahama banned travel on first class tickets by all government officials.

NFF budgets N5.9billion for football in 2016

The country’s football house has earmarked the huge amount to facilitate football activities towards a better outing next year
The Nigeria Football Federation has presented a 2016 budget of 5.9 billion naira to the National Assembly for the funding of its football activities next year.
In a document made available to congressmen at its 71st Annual General Assembly, the NFF is confident its recent financial challenges would soon be forgotten with the nod of the legislators.
It recalled that the NFF failed to meet its obligations on payment of allowances and salaries of players and coaches of the various national teams; hence the Sports Minister ordered the payment of all outstanding wages.

A sum of N1.5 billion would be spent on Super Eagles’ participation in the Championship of African Nations (CHAN) scheduled for Rwanda from January 16 to February 7, 2016.
The budgeted amount would cover the team’s camping, overseas training tour including its participation in the competition.
The NFF also budgeted 672 million naira for the U20 Fifa Women World Cup billed for Papua New Guinea from November 13 to December 3 next year and earmarked 369 million naira for Dream Team’s Rio 2016 Olympics campaign.
The Federation set aside 920 million naira for Super Falcons' preparation, qualifiers and participation in the 2016 African Women Championship in Cameroon, while the Flying Eagles' preparation and participation in the U-20 Cup of Nations would require 620 million naira.
It also budgeted 651 million naira for Super Sand Eagles campaign in the 2016 COPA Lagos Beach Soccer championship, 115 million naira for grassroots youth championships as well as 286 million naira for payment of coaches' salaries.
RUMOURS: Chelsea & Man City ready to move for Benzema
The France star has endured a turbulent season on and off the pitch at the Santiago Bernabeu and the Premier League clubs would be prepared to give him a fresh start in England

Manchester City and Chelsea are both ready to bid for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema, according to HITC

The France international's future at the Santiago Bernabeu has come under speculation amid rumours of differences with coach Rafael Benitez.

Benzema's charges of conspiracy to blackmail France team-mate Mathias Valbuena over a sex tape has also led to strained relations, as the striker believes the club could have supported him with more gusto during the scandal.

Chelsea would be keen to bolster their strikeforce in January as Diego Costa has struggled for goals this season, while City could use cover for Sergio Aguero, who has suffered from injuries and missed several key games so far.
