Fresh APC Violence Erupts in Ogun (UPDATED)

Another turn of political violence was recorded in Ogun State on January 23, 2014, Thursday. The violence occurred at Ota Town, Ado/Odo-Ota Local Government Area, where suspected political thugs unleashed terror on the secretariat of a serving Senator, Akin Odunsin. The suspected thugs, identified as loyalists of a faction of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and said to be armed with guns and other dangerous weapons, allegedly attacked and injured one Kemi Afolabi, said to be working as secretary in Odunsi's constituency office. Afolabi, who is said to have been injured, is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in Ota. After their attack on Odunsi's secretary, the hoodlums allegedly ransacked the lawmaker's office and damaged various equipment before fleeing the scene. The incident, which was the third political violence in the state in the past three weeks, occurred barely 24 hours after the intervention of the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona, in the festering crisis rocking the APC in the state. According to The Punch, gathered that the suspected hoodlums operating in an unmarked private car stormed Senator Odunsi's office located opposite AUD High School, Iganmode road, Ota at about 9.15 a.m. and beat up all those found in the office. The supporters of the Senator were however said to have mobilised themselves for a reprisal, heightening the tension in the area. The quick intervention of policemen, led by the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ota, Gabriel Idibie, brought the situation under control. The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the Commissioner of Police, Ikemefuna Okoye, had already visited the scene to assess the situation
