Bodies of slain boys
On Thursday, two days after the Boko Haram gunmen attacked Federal Government College in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, the Joint Task Force have confirmed deaths of 29 male students.
The JTF spokesperson in Yobe State, Lazarus Eli, said as of Thursday morning, there were 29 casualties from the attack, all students.
In early hours of Tuesday, February 25, Boko Haram militants stormed the school, set the students' dormitories on fire and slit the throats of those who tried to escape.
According to local reports, soldiers guarding a checkpoint near the school withdrew hours before the attack.
The figure voiced by the JTF spokesman contradicts earlier updates suggesting the death toll from the massacre has risen to 59 students.
Yesterday, suspected Boko Haram militants carried a surprise terror attack on some communities in Adamawa State.
The latest attack is the fourth recorded on schools in Yobe State. GSS Damaturu, GSS Mamudo and College of Agriculture, Gujba were attacked last year.
Yobe, together with Borno and Adamawa States, has been under emergency rule since May 2013 to help the military to curb the Boko Haram activities.
