Pro-Jonathan Groups Seek Obasanjo’s Immediate Arrest

Two groups working for President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday called for the immediate arrest of former President Olusegun Obasanjo over his letter to the President alleging some irregularities in government.

The groups, PDP Reloaded and Arise Nigeria, alleged that majority of the issues raised by Obasanjo in his letter happened during his regime both as military head of state and as civilian President.
Leaders of the two groups, Chief Richard Lamai (PDP Reloaded) and Chief Jasper Johnson (Arise Nigeria), who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja, also extolled the leadership qualities of Jonathan.
They wondered why Obasanjo could resort to writing letters when he could call the President or visit him at any time.
Both men alleged that Obasanjo had supplanted the nomination of the Governor of Rivers State, Mr. Rotimi Amaechi with that of Mr. Celestine Omehia and also disobeyed the Supreme Court ruling which they said favoured Sen. Ifeanyi Ararume in Imo State during his regime.
They said that Obasanjo must have the list of the alleged 1000 listed for elimination by the Federal Government in preparation for the 2015 general elections and that because of this, he should be invited by the security agencies.
The statement said, "It is in this regard that we call on the nation's security agencies to invite Obasanjo to help them unravel the mystery camp where the snipers are being trained and the list of those earmarked for elimination.
We would not want a situation where the witch cried at night and the child died in the day.
Therefore Nigerians are hereby called to be very vigilant in the coming days and be ready to defend their hard earned democracy as the worst democracy is better than the best military dictatorship."
Lamai and Johnson recalled that there were several other unresolved murders in the country.
Among those listed were the inability of the government to apprehend the killings of the former Minister of Justice, Chief Bola Ige; a former PDP governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Chief Funsho Williams and others.
They said it was wrong for Obasanjo to ask Jonathan to use a different tactics to stop the Boko Haram insurgent in the country adding that the story of Odi and Zakinthos Biam where his administration ordered the security agencies to descend on the two towns after the killings of security men should not be emulated by Jonathan.
Asked whether it would not be better for the President to address issues raised in Obasanjo's letter instead of castigating the former President, the two men said that most of the points were baseless.
