PDP disowns Dokpesi again, says party ‘has nothing to apologise for’

Chief-Raymond-DokpesiThe Peoples Democratic Party on Thursday said it contributed immensely to the development of the country during its 16 years rule and had nothing to apologise for.
The Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Dr. Bello Mohammed, made this known at the National Conference of the party in Abuja.
The theme of the one day conference was: “PDP and the Sustenance of Democratic Ideals in Nigeria.”
Mohammed said PDP was moving forward as an alternative party to the ruling All Progressives Congress and would remain a party of choice for Nigerians.
He said: “For one reason or the other, what has happened has happened, but that does not mean all our policies were wrong.
“That is why when I heard that PDP is apologising for the period it was in government for 16 years, I was surprised.
“The PDP governors, presidents, ministers and other functionaries have given their best.
“We have recorded very high achievements in this country and we have everything to be proud of. We have nothing to apologise for.”
The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that Chief Raymond Dokpesi, the Conference Committee Chairman, had at a news conference in Abuja on Tuesday apologised on behalf of the party for “its mistakes during its 16-year rule”.
The BOT chairman said what had been happening in Nigeria in the last six months had vindicated the PDP.
Mohammed said: “All what has been happening in the APC government is being built on PDP’s foundation, at state and national levels.
“We should not fall for the gimmick, trying to spoil the name of PDP, that we have destroyed the country.
“These are all propaganda. The actual truth is that the PDP handed over to Buhari a viable government.”
Mohammed advised the APC-led Federal Government not to use the PDP as an excuse to run away from fulfilling its campaign promises to Nigerians.
He said: “This country needs the consensus of opinions, regardless of political affiliation, to collectively fight insurgency and develop the country.
“We need all people of this country to work together if we are to defeat Boko Haram, renew the economy, progress and move this country forward.”
