Victor Ndoma-Egba
Senate leader, legislator representing Cross River State Central region, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN) prompted Nigerian authorities and security agencies to look into allegations of the Boko Haram terrorist sect using chemical weapons to kill Benue State residents.
The lawmaker spoke in Calabar, Cross River State, while receiving the Allround best lawmaker award presented by postgraduate students of the University of Calabar.
He urged Nigerian security agencies to undertake a thorough investigation into such claims, warning that the issue could take a frightening scale among Nigeria's current security challenges. He said the security agencies must get to the root of the allegations and take adequate measures to address the issue.
He also commended the Federal Government for the measures taken to curb the Boko Haram activities, but added, however, that the Joint Task Force must intensify their campaign.
It would be recalled that first concerns were raised by authorities of Benue State who alleged that Boko Haram insurgents, disuised as Fulani herdsmen, used chemical substances to kill over 200 residents of the state. Then, Director General of National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control maintained he saw chemical weapons being stored in canister shells.
