While Armory Week and Frieze Week get lots of attention, the reality is that there is never a dull moment in the New York art world. From the East Side to the West Side, there’s always something happening at the city’s museums, galleries, and various event spaces. This week was no exception.

Artists, collectors, and curators gathered last Saturday, July 9, for amidsummer fête at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill, New York. Organized to raise funds for the museum, the event exceeded its mark, drawing over $1 million.

A live auction included tickets to Rules of the Game, a collaborative dance work by choreographer Jonah Bokaer and artist Daniel Arsham, this fall at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Next Wave Festival; a Bulgari Lucea watch; and a connoisseur’s wine collection. Notable guests includedBrooklyn Rail editor Phong Bui, artist Frank Baker, and model Mia Calabrese.
20/20 Hindsight: The Knoedler/Rosales Affair at International Foundation for Art ResearchThe International Foundation for Art Research (IFAR) hosted a discussion devoted to the fraud trial of Knoedler, the storied New York gallery. It was a lively presentation that examined the forgery scandal from what seemed like every angle possible.
Participants included Patricia Cohen, the New York Times reporter who covered the story from the very beginning; John Cahill, an art law specialist who represented the buyer of a faked Willem de Kooning painting; Sharon Flescher, executive director of IFAR, who testified at the trial; James Martin, a forensic paint analyst and president of Orion Analytical, who also testified; Adam Sheffer, president of the Art Dealers Association of America; and artist, art historian, and former Museum of Modern Art curator Robert Storr.
Summer Open House at the Bronx Museum of ArtThis year’s open house showcased the museum’s newest exhibitions, including “¡Presente! The Young Lords in New York,” which examines the activism of the Puerto Rican youth group in the 1960s; “Bronx Calling: The Third AIM Biennial,” showing the work of 72 emerging artists from the Artist in the Marketplace (AIM) Program, and “Art AIDS America,” which includes 125 works from 1981 to today.
Guests were also treated to live performances by Ariel Jackson, Maria Hupfield, and Julia Nymann.

On Thursday night, the Joseph Gross Gallery in Chelsea hosted a party for the opening of the new exhibition “Night & Day.” Gallery director Lynzy Blair chose artists whose works activate space whether it’s dark or light out. Guests were seen navigating an enchanting arrangement of neon light sculptures, courtesy of artist Jason Peters, and plant installations by Dave Singley.
