As the ruling People’s Democratic Party conducts its
governorship primaries today, the Abia State chapter of
the party has said that it will not lose sleep over the
opposition party, All Peoples Congress or “any opposition
party for that matter,” claiming that “the opposition is
non-existent in the state.”
PDP Chairman, Emma Nwaka, told our correspondent
in Umuahia that PDP would still sweep the 2015 polls in
the state as none of the opposition parties has the political
weight to challenge it.
Nwaka dismissed APC as ” non issue,” arguing that
before the party could come out of its current leadership
crisis, the 2015 elections would have come and gone.
Abia APC is torn into two with each of the two
factional Chairmen, Fabian Nwankwo , and Donatus
Nwankpa claiming to be the authentic leader respectively.
While Nwankwo told our reporter that his faction had
applied to the Independent National Election Commission
for time extension to elect its flag bearer, Nwankpa’s
faction, Friday elected Chief Nyerere Anyim as its
candidate.
Although APC is not seen as a serious minded party in
Abia especially in view of the current leadership tussle
rocking the party at this auspicious election season, the All
Progressive Grand Alliance is rather considered a better
alternative capable of giving PDP a fight at the polls.
