Workers protest in Rivers over LG autonomy

SCORES of local government workers marched to the Rivers State House of Assembly in Port Harcourt on Tuesday and demanded for local government autonomy.

The council workers, who were on a peaceful protest under the auspices of the National Union of Local Government Employees, expressed dissatisfaction over the lawmakers’ failure to support LG autonomy as demanded by NULGE.

Displaying placard and chanting war songs, the protesters temporarily blocked the old Government House, where the state lawmakers had been sitting since the closure of the State House of Assembly complex.
