A total of 58 aspirants are contesting for the Peoples
Democratic Party tickets for the House of
Representatives for the 24 federal constituencies in Lagos
State.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that, out of the 58
aspirants, five are unopposed.
The party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Mr Taofik
Gani, confirmed the figure to newsmen in Lagos on
Saturday as the primary election was about to begin.
He said that the unopposed aspirants were from Etiosa,
Ifako Jaiye, Ibeju Lekki, Kosofe and Lagos Island 2
Federal Constituencies.
Gani said that the candidature of the unopposed aspirants
would be ratified by the delegates in their respective
constituencies.
He said that all other aspirants would go for elections.
Meanwhile, distribution of materials for the primaries did
not begin until about 2.45pm.
Attempts to reach the chairman of the committee set up by
the party to handle the primary failed as a party official
told journalists that the committee members would not talk
to them until the end of the election.
