Andre-Pierre Gignac set to leave Marseille, talks up Inter Milan move

Andre-Pierre Gignac has told Gazzetta dello Sport he
intends to leave Marseille in the summer and would welcome a
move to Inter Milan.
Gignac, who turns 29 on Friday, comes to the end of his
contract at OM in June. The French international striker,
who has a league-high 11 goals this season -- tied with Lyon's
Alexandre Lacazette -- would expect to see his salary
increased should he sign a contract extension at the Stade
Velodrome if he maintains his current form.
However, the 1992-93 Champions League winners are keen
to cut their costs, and are unwilling to even match Gignac's
current 300,000 euro monthly wage with OM president
Vincent Labrune recently admitting he would extend the
player's deal if the salary was cut by a third.
The former Lorient and Toulouse man has said he would not
necessarily be against lowering his wages, and suggested the
fate of coach Marcelo Bielsa, who has rejuvenated OM this
season and led them to the top of the table, could have an
influence on him. However he admitted he is likely to be
playing his final campaign for the club he joined in 2010.
"I think I will leave at the end of the season," the forward,
who was a boyhood Marseille fan, said. "I would like to
know if Bielsa will stay. But I am looking for a big
challenge. I will examine all the offers carefully."
OM have already rejected a six million euro offer from
Dynamo Moscow, who snapped up OM midfielder Mathieu
Valbuena last summer and had hoped to add Gignac to their
squad in January.
Gignac suggested he would be happy to move to Italy where
Inter Milan are reportedly an enthusiastic suitor.
"Inter is an insitution. Mancini is a great coach. It would be
great," he added. "I live for football and I watch all the
major leagues. I admire the tactical culture in Italy. And I
have also played against Sampdoria -- the tifosi [group of
fans] certainly made an impression on me."
