Sokoto state governor, Alhaji Aliyu Magatakarda
Wamakko, has charged security operatives in the
country to stop harassing innocent Nigerians in the
course of tackling terrorism, but to be professional in
their conducts.
The Sokoto state governor made this charge in Abuja
yesterday during a brief chat with newsmen as he
reiterated disgust to a recent harassment which he
said he got from the National Security Adviser, Col
Sambo Dasuki, over his comment on plans to remove
the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu
Tambuwal.
The governor had alleged a few days ago that he was
being threatened by Dasuki over his comments against
the police invasion of the National Assembly in Abuja.
Wamakko said no Nigerian has the right to threaten
his fellow citizen, the constitution of Nigeria having
guaranteed the freedom of speech for everybody
He said as the governor of a state, he has every right
to speak on any issue, most especially those anchored
on National Interest.
According to him, he would not be bothered by such
threat from any quarter.
He reiterated that the action by the police on the
National Assembly incident was the highest level of
impunity, which he stressed, was capable of tarnishing
the image and integrity of Nigeria before the
international community.
Wamakko noted that in a normal society, both the
National Security Adviser and the Inspector General of
Police, Suleiman Abba would resign their appointments
because they have failed Nigerians.
The governor said the police by their constitutional
role ought to protect democracy rather than being seen
to be sabotaging it.
He said, “I had an interview with a foreign medium
during which I voiced my opinion, and shortly
afterwards, I received a text message from Col Sambo
Dasuki stating, ’till I hear from him’.
“But let me assure you that nothing would happen; it
is just an empty threat. We are not afraid of anybody
because we have Allah by our side and with him we
are assured of Allah protection,” he stressed.
