Five killed in Kenyan slum fire

At least five people were killed on Thursday night in a
fire incident while more than 100 houses were burnt in
Kibera slums in the outskirts of capital Nairobi, Kenyan
police confirmed on Friday.
Kilimani divisional police commander Peter Katam said
they suspect an electric fault as the cause of the fire, but
noted that they have launched investigations to establish the
real cause of the inferno which left some slum dwellers
homeless.
“The five who perished in the inferno were burnt beyond
recognition and we suspect there are three adults and two
children, ” Katam said.
He said the deceased were members of the same family
who were asleep by the time of the incident.
Katam said they discovered the bodies hours after the
inferno had been contained, adding that the fire
extinguishers could not access the scene on time
