Jonathan’s wife seeks enforcement of girlchild education

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has called on
relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure the
enforcement of girlchild’s rights to education in Nigeria.
This is contained in a statement issued by Mr Ayo
Adewuyi, the Media Adviser to the President’s wife, in
Abuja on Friday. The statement stated that Jonathan
made the call at a dinner organised by Northern Women
Progressive Initiative on Thursday in honour of the
immediate past Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma
Mukhtar. She said that societal development could be
guaranteed if female children were given equal rights and
access to education. According to her, the former chief
justice by achievements underscored the importance of
girlchild education. Jonathan said, “She is a testimony of
the adage that says ‘when you educate a woman, you
educate a nation’. “It is, therefore, clear to all that it is
education that has made our celebrant of today to get to
the peak of her spotless judicial career successfully. “It is
education that made her a lady of strong character; it is
education that made her morally upright. “Let me restate
my call for legislative instruments for the right of the
girlchild to education.”
