The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital
(LASUTH) yesterday revealed that they are ready
to guard against a recurrence of the Ebola Virus
Disease outbreak in Nigeria.
The Chief Medical Director, Prof. Wale Oke
revealed that the danger of another outbreak is still
available.
He said: “Not only did we completely eradicate the
disease in Nigeria, we actually were able to save a lot
more people that would have died.
“Consequent upon this fact, the hospital, through its
emergency committee, has put modalities in place as a
form of proactive response to unprecedented epidemic
of the Ebola Virus Disease, popularly known as EVD.
“We have eradicated it, but the chances of another
Sawyer coming in should not be over looked.
“So, LASUTH has put up structures in place to combat
any possible epidemic and this also cuts across the
State-owned hospitals.
“And what the commissioner told us was: we must
make sure that we have our antenna, our alarm button
up so that we can safely manage if another one
comes in.“
On October 20th the World Health Organisation
(WHO) declared the nation free of the Ebola virus.
