Former Chelsea coach Avram Grant is tipped to be named the new Head Coach of the Ghana Black Stars, highly placed sources at the Ghana Football Authority hinted at a press conference in Accra, Friday.
The FA said Grant performed creditably out of the three shortlisted hopefuls. The source also said the FA may announce his appointment next week after tying the loose ends of his contract. The FA is yet to come to a full agreement with the celebrated coach concerning personal terms and other fringe benefits.
Spaniard Juan Ignacio Martínez is likely to be appointed if the final agreement with Grant falls through, the source indicated.
FA president Kwasi Nyantakyi said they were impressed with Grant's overall philosophy and plan for the Ghana game as well as his affable nature and interpersonal skills.
His ability to speak English also gave him an advantage over the Spaniard and Frenchman Michel Pont, another shortlisted coach.
The Israeli-born Grant has primarily coached in Israel, winning a number of national league and cup victories with different teams. He has also managed the Israeli national team for four years.
He moved to England in 2006 to become Technical Director of Portsmouth before being appointed Director of football at Chelsea in July 2007.
Avram Grant was appointed Head Coach of Chelsea FC in September 2007, following the departure of José Mourinho. He took Chelsea to the Champions League final, during his stint at Chelsea.
The Black Stars Head Coach position became vacant after the FA fired homegrown Kwasi Appiah after a disappointing 2014 World Cup campaign.
